1974: Western Union, in collaboration with NASA and Hughes Aircraft, launches Westar 1, the first commercial geostationary communication satellite in the United States. 

1992: An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale strikes Roermond (Netherlands). Felt strongly throughout Belgium and parts of Europe, it remains one of the most significant earthquakes in the region's recent history.
