2018: A magnitude 3.1 earthquake on the Richter scale occurs in Kinrooi, in the province of Limburg. Felt by a large section of the local population, this earthquake was located at a depth of approximately 16 km. Closely monitored by seismologists at the Royal Observatory of Belgium, this event is part of the historical seismicity of the Roer Valley Graben (the central segment of the Rhine Graben), a zone of active faults that crosses eastern Belgium.
