1923: G. Van Biesbroeck discovers the asteroid 993 and names it "Moultona" after his American colleague Forest R. Moulton, astronomer and mathematician specialising in celestial mechanics.

2007: Comet McNaught reaches perihelion and becomes the brightest comet in more than 50 years, after comet Arend-Roland in 1956.
