1988: Erik Elst discovers asteroid 5115 and names it "Frimout", after the first Belgian astronaut Dirk Frimout, who participated in the "ATLAS" mission in March 1992.

2004: The Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics reports the discovery of the largest known diamond in the universe: the white dwarf BPM 37093.
