1966: An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale occurs in Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont.

2005: Peter De Cat discovers the asteroid 134160 and names it "Pluis" (fluff). This minor planet is a tribute to all children suffering from cancer. It is named after his niece Aina Vandenabeele (8 June 2004 - 1 December 2004). Aina was called "Pluis" by her parents and died after a courageous battle against leukaemia.
