1750: Birth of Caroline Herschel, German-born English astronomer (died 1848). Often overshadowed by her brother William, Caroline was a brilliant scientist in her own right and a pioneer for women in science.

1926: Robert Goddard launches the first liquid-fuelled rocket in Auburn, Massachusetts. Though his first flight lasted only 2.5 seconds and reached an altitude of just 12.5 metres (41 feet).

2026 : A magnitude 3.1 earthquake shakes the region of Jalhay, near Liège. Recorded instantaneously by the sensors of the Royal Observatory of Belgium (ROB), this event illustrates constant seismological vigilance and serves as a reminder that eastern Belgium remains an active tectonic zone.
